Low-temperature plasma is the fourth state of matter after solid,liquid and gas.When the external voltage reaches the discharge voltage of the gas,the gas is broken down to produce a mixture including electrons,various ions,atoms and free radicals.Although the electron temperature is very high during the discharge process,the temperature of heavy particles is very low,and the entire system is in a low-temperature state,so it is called low-temperature plasma.Low-temperature plasma degradation of pollutants is to use these electrons,free radicals and other active particles and pollutants in the exhaust gas to decompose the pollutant molecules within a certain period of time,and then various subsequent reactions occur to achieve the purpose of degrading pollutants.Generally,when a gas is discharged,plasma will be generated,and this discharge phenomenon is to separate one or more electrons from the gas principle or molecule through a certain mechanism to form a gas medium.This medium is called ionized gas.If the external electric field generates ionized gas,a conductive current is formed,and this phenomenon is called gas discharge.

The principle of low-temperature plasma technology for treating pollutants is:under the action of an external electric field,a large number of energetic electrons generated by dielectric discharge bombard pollutant molecules,ionizing,dissociating and exciting them,and then triggering a series of complex physical and chemical reactions,which transform complex macromolecular pollutants into simple small molecular substances,or transform substances into low-toxic and low-harm substances,thereby degrading and removing pollutants.Because the average energy of the electrons generated after ionization is 10ev,proper control of the reaction conditions can achieve chemical reactions that are difficult to achieve or very slow under normal circumstances.As a high-potential advantage in environmental pollution treatment,plasma has received great attention from relevant disciplines.
